Health

Protecting your well-being

As a leading manufacturer of mobile phones, Sony Ericsson is committed to high safety standards in the design of its products.

Compliance with standards and regulations

All our phone models are carefully designed and rigorously tested to comply with international safety standards and government health and safety regulations. These standards employ wide safety margins to give greatest protection to the public.

Extensive research over many years has not established any conclusive evidence linking adverse health effects with the use of mobile phones meeting those standards and regulations.

Specific absorption rate (SAR)

The radio wave exposure guidelines employ a unit of measurement known as the Specific Absorption Rate, or SAR. Tests for SAR are conducted using standardised methods with the phone transmitting at its highest certified power level in all used frequency bands. The differences in SAR values between phone models do not reflect a difference in safety.

To find SAR information for a specific product, go to the SAR information page in our Support section and select your product.

Nickel information

All Sony Ericsson products are designed and tested to meet relevant requirements on the environment, health and safety. These requirements include that nickel not be used in surfaces that may come into direct and prolonged contact with skin.

During development, relevant parts that may come into direct contact with skin are tested for the emission of nickel, and they have passed the screening test before a product is launched. However, it has come to our attention that the nickel used internally in some parts of some products may leak through the top layers, even though they have been tested. These parts may emit very low levels of nickel unintentionally. This has been addressed, and all products launched during 2009 and onwards will be free from nickel in surfaces that may come into direct and prolonged contact with the user's skin.

If a nickel-sensitive user is unsure about his or her mobile phone or has experienced any discomfort related to nickel hypersensitivity, please contact Sony Ericsson Help Desk for further information.

For products released in 2007 and 2008, the following mobile phones have been confirmed to cause no reactions in nickel-sensitive persons: C902, C905, F305, G502, G700, G705, J132, K330, K530, K770, K850, K858, R306, S302, S500, T303, T650, T658, T700, W300, W350, W380, W580, W595, W660, W760, W902, W980, X1, Z555.
