Respect and responsibility


Sony Ericsson believes in respecting for human rights and in the ethical treatment of all employees. It is our policy to behave in a socially and ethically responsible way and to operate our business in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

Since the start of our company in 2001, Sony Ericsson has operated under a corporate social responsibility code. This code helps employees make the ethically correct decisions necessary to perform their job duties on a daily basis.

Supplier social responsibility code

Sony Ericsson's supplier social responsibility code places expectations on suppliers to provide a safe workplace for employees, respect basic human rights, and apply proper ethical standards in all business dealings. Sony Ericsson inspects all first level suppliers to ensure the requirements are realized on a practical level.

Supplier management

Sony Ericsson insists that it only works with suppliers who meet our stringent requirements. Influencing product improvement and development from an environmental and CSR point of view in the full supply chain is a key factor in achieving industry leadership as well as compliance with our requirements.

All Sony Ericsson suppliers must undergo assessment to ensure compliance with our environmental and CSR requirements. The assessments verify that suppliers have procedures within place to control their own supply chain.

Metal extraction and our concerns

Sony Ericsson welcomes initiatives which highlight issues surrounding metals extraction. We are open to dialogues and cooperation with non-governmental organizations, industry bodies, and relevant authorities to find solutions to the complex issues.

At Sony Ericsson, we do not purchase raw materials such as tin, tantalum, tungsten or gold, but we purchase components which may contain small amounts of these metals. We have more influence on companies and organizations where there is a direct relationship and agreement structure in place. We have specifically been in contact with our suppliers of tantalum capacitors and require them not to use illegally mined tantalum from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the surrounding area. To learn more, please see Tantalum statement and information

Together with our parent companies Sony and Ericsson, Sony Ericsson supports business initiatives such as Global e-Sustainability Initiative (GeSI) and Electronics Industry Citizenship Coalition (EICC) that are trying to create better conditions for controlling work standards and raw materials production.
