Create a backup of the user data in your phone

To avoid losing your images, contacts, music, video clips and messages, Sony Ericsson recommends that you save your personal user data before you perform a software update. Update Service replaces all existing phone software and resets your phone to factory default.

Depending on the phone model, there are different ways to back up user data:

  • Memory card
Suitable for backing up your contacts, bookmarks, pictures*, video clips*, music*, ringtones*, applications*, games* and downloaded content (podcasts, etc.).
  • SIM card
Backup contacts and text messages to your SIM card. The number of contacts and text messages you can store depends on your SIM card.
  • Synchronisation software
Suitable for backing up your contacts, bookmarks, pictures*, video clips*, music*, ringtones*, applications*, games* and downloaded content (podcasts, etc.).

*Note: Some DRM (Digital Rights Management)-protected material cannot be backed up. DRM is used to limit the distribution of digital media, i.e. audio, pictures, music tones and video clips, and entertainment features such as games, Java applications, etc. After the update is complete your additional rights will be lost. To be able to use a DRM-protected file, please contact the content provider to get the additional rights.
