What is the Sony Ericsson Update Service?
The Sony Ericsson Update Service application is a convenient way to easily update your phone with the latest available software to improve performance. You can access the Update Service application over the Internet from your computer.
Before you begin
Before beginning a software update, check that your phone has enough free memory. The battery must be fully charged and you must have a USB cable.
Do I have to backup my user data?
To avoid losing your personal user data, you should always create a backup of your contacts, messages, photos and files before you update the software. There are several ways to do this - see which method is appropriate for different types of user data. The memory card is an efficient way to backup files in your phone. When connected to a computer, use the PC Suite for backup. You can also backup contacts and messages onto the phone's SIM card.
How long does it take?
How long a software update takes depends very much on the speed of your Internet connection and which phone model you are updating. It will generally take about 10 to 40 minutes to update your phone.

How do I use the Update Service application?
Once you have installed the Update Service application on your computer, double-click the Update Service icon that appears on the desktop and follow the instructions. If you need help installing Update Service, please refer to the Getting started guide. Update Service is an online application and needs access to the Internet when in use.
Troubleshooting
There are a number of things you can try if your update fails. Common problems include: If the phone does not have enough free memory or battery capacity to perform a software update, you will be notified. If this is the problem, release phone memory.
