Our commitment

Sony Ericsson supports the sound environmental recycling of Sony Ericsson products by introducing Global Environmental Warranty.

When Sony Ericsson products are provided to our designated take-back collection points, Sony Ericsson warrants to recycle them in an environmentally sound way. Sony Ericsson will seek to optimise the amount of material that can reasonably be re-used or recycled. The remaining material will be disposed of in an environmentally conscious manner in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. This warranty is valid globally, independent of the original sales location or the selected Sony Ericsson collection point location.

 

This is our way of showing that Sony Ericsson supports individual producer responsibility (IPR). We also support initiatives which bring about legislation that suitably address these issues. We are happy to participate in the process to put such legislation in place. This is true in all locations where we are active. This is also why we have engaged ourselves in the UNEP Basel Convention Mobile Phone Partnership Initiative which has developed guidance documents for design, collection, refurbishment, recycling and trans-border movement of products for re-use. We also believe that regulation shall not prevent alternative ways to set up a system for best efficiency and environmental performance.

 

Sony Ericsson develops and participates in industry-wide common systems since that is often more efficient to minimize environmental impact from collection and recycling. When no systems are present we are prepared to introduce our own systems. Our plan is to roll-out designated collection from now on and to have coverage where we are active in 2009.
