Why recycle?
Sony Ericsson wants to help consumers to reduce the impact of e-waste on the environment.
Did you know that most consumers keep unwanted mobile phones in drawers and that only as little as 7% of unwanted mobile phones are recycled. We want to help you to recycle your unwanted mobile phone and so reducing impact on the environment.
Recycling means that mobile phones do not end up in landfills but are sent to recycling facilities specialised in mobile phone recycling. This leads to that both components and materials are used once again reducing the need to extract and refine material for new products. Furthermore, this will lead to the reduction of e-waste, saving energy and chemicals.
Sony Ericsson does not support refurbishment of mobile phones as we do not want to see developing and emerging markets as a place where old technology is dumped and thereby creates e-waste problems. A more sustainable solution is to make products available that are optimised for developing markets.
In order to live up to our commitment, we work with selected recycling partners who are assessed on a regular basis. We want to make sure that any mobile phones handed over for recycling are recycled in a proper and environmentally sound way.
